TUNNEL SOCIETIES WINDFALL FROM TURBINE FUND
THE Rhondda Tunnel Society has received a financial boost in its longterm aim of reopening Wales’ longest disused railway tunnel.
The society was awarded PS5,000 as part of the Treorchy Wind Farm Fund, set up by the Maerdy wind farm – eight turbines built in 2013 at the top of the Rhondda, to benefit community groups.
Applications for grants – that range from PS500, PS1,000, PS2,500 and PS5,000 – were up for grabs and it was up to the community to vote for who received a share of the PS50,000 fund.
Voting took place for the Treorchy Wind Farm fund last month at Treorchy Boys & Girls Club.
As We Said Before:
This could be good news for any biking family holiday-makers who like a nice flattish mono-terrain ‘family’ mountain bike day out. Ideal for a short weekend break or a rural retreat during a school holiday.
You could soon ride from Glyncorrwg on an extension of the newly-renovated Rheilffordd Trail right in to the Rhondda – to Treorci or even Tonypandy.
Maybe not so good for the adventurous MTB type that like the rough trails around Glyncorrwg and Afan though.
